Support to GI Development in Central Asia – Promotion of Newly Identified GI
2025
Since April 2025, Hilfswerk International has been implementing the project GI DEV (Support to GI Development in Central Asia – Promotion of Newly Identified GI) in close cooperation with WIPO, the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Local experts are actively participating in the project, including representatives of the Kazakhstan Association of Sugar, Food and Processing Industry, as well as the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Enterprises of Kyrgyzstan.
The project is being implemented with the financial and technical support of WIPO, the World Intellectual Property Organization.
WIPO — is the United Nations agency that serves the world’s innovators and creators, ensuring that their ideas travel safely to the market and improve lives everywhere. WIPO does so by providing services that enable creators, innovators and entrepreneurs to protect and promote their intellectual property (IP) – patents, trademarks, designs, geographical indications and copyright – across borders and acting as a forum for addressing cutting-edge IP issues. WIPO’s IP data and information guide decisionmakers the world over. WIPO’s impact-driven projects and technical assistance ensure IP benefits everyone, everywhere.
This project is part of a broader Hilfswerk International programme in Central Asia aimed at promoting social and economic development in the region. Hilfswerk International is an independent, non-profit Austrian NGO based in Vienna, providing humanitarian aid and development cooperation worldwide since 1978.
Active in Central Asia since 2001, Hilfswerk International pursues a long-term strategy of promoting sustainable business growth and regional cooperation to drive inclusive economic development. We support agricultural advancement, market integration, and export opportunities, ensuring that small farmers and vulnerable value chain actors achieve stable incomes and greater resilience. Central to our mission are inclusivity and strengthening climate change resilience, both of which play a vital role in fostering long-term sustainability.
